Canon announced on 11 May 2026 that it was rolling out an Authenticity Imaging System for supported news-organization workflows, initially in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The system uses provenance information created by C2PA-enabled cameras as its starting point. It can issue certificates, apply trusted timestamps and preserve records added during editing and distribution so that a publisher can examine an image's recorded history. Canon identified the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II as supported camera models and stated that C2PA functionality requires paid activation.

Reuters collaborated with Canon on technical enablement and testing before launch. Content provenance helps demonstrate how a file was captured and handled, but it should be assessed together with normal editorial verification; it does not by itself prove that every contextual claim about an image is true.
