The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) announced on 27 July 2026 that TikTok had upgraded from General Member to Steering Committee Member.

C2PA develops the open Content Credentials standard, which allows digital media to carry tamper-evident provenance information about its origin and editing history. TikTok is expected to contribute its experience implementing Content Credentials at platform scale and help guide further technical development and adoption.

This announcement concerns standards governance and industry collaboration. It does not mean that every item posted on TikTok automatically carries Content Credentials, and provenance information should not be treated as a guarantee that a claim is factually true.
