India’s National Artificial Intelligence Skilling Initiative has recorded 60,253 enrolments in its first phase, according to an official announcement issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on 12 August 2026.

The programme has been developed with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) and private-sector partners to strengthen practical, industry-relevant AI capabilities.

Phase I consists of four modules totalling 33 hours:
1. AI Essentials: practical productivity, data synthesis and content creation.
2. Prompting Essentials: writing effective professional prompts.
3. Introduction to Generative AI: large-language-model fundamentals and responsible AI.
4. Generative AI Leader: workflow automation and organisational transformation.

The official announcement reports that 4,620 participants completed two modules and 552 participants completed all four modules. Details of Phase II, including its curriculum, modules and duration, were still being finalised when the announcement was released.

The initiative is relevant to journalism students, digital creators, communication professionals, advertising practitioners, filmmakers and researchers exploring responsible AI adoption.
